Honor Franklin has been the pioneer among orofacial myologists in emphasizing the need for each patient with OMDs to have a clear airway prior to the initiation of orofacial myofunctional therapy. She is the first to point out and insist that airway interferences need to be resolved before therapy can be successful. Dr. Franklin has led the effort to have patients with OMDs be evaluated and treated by ENT and allergy specialists. Her close associations with both ENT specialists and allergists culminated in an editorial co-authored with me for the ENT journal Otolaryngology (October 26, 2014). The purpose of this editorial was to alert all otolaryngologists to orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMDs) and their primary causes of airway interferences, including allergies. It is hoped that an understanding of the variety of OMDs among orthodontists will facilitate improved communications between otolaryngologists and orofacial myologists.

Honor Franklin is an accomplished lecturer whose presentations at various professional groups are well known and highly respected. I am keenly aware of the high esteem with which Dr. Franklin is held within the orthodontic community in Dallas. The high praise she has earned includes lecturing in orthodontic training programs in Texas, where she is a frequent contributor to the education of orthodontic residents.

Dr. Franklin has a stellar and unique clinical experience in providing therapy services for OMDs. There is no doubt that her private practice in orofacial myology is the most successful practice in the USA and probably the world. The therapy results that Dr. Franklin has achieved are as well documented as any in the field.
Dr. Honor Franklin continues to serve as a mentor for many clinicians in the IAOM, providing advice and responding to questions posed by clinicians who seek the truth of what works, and why. She has willingly shared her office setup, record keeping, therapy methods and results with other clinicians. Many less-experienced and highly-trained clinicians look to her for advice and affirmation for what they do. Dr. Franklin's unselfish acts of sharing have enhanced the lives of countless clinicians in orofacial myofunctional therapy.

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Franklin and her office. They were a second family to us. Dr. Franklin’s self-developed method for our daughter’s open mouth posture worked beautifully. The gap in her teeth closed, the bottom jaw moved into place giving more definition to the chin. We worked really hard EVERY DAY for 10 months, but it saved us from years of orthodontic work and in the end, saved us money from years of orthodontic work.

At our first consultation with Dr Franklin, our 9 year old daughter was a mouth breather, rested her teeth on her bottom lip constantly, chewed only with her mouth open, often touched/rubbed her nose, her lips were constantly dry and chapped and she had a weak chin that dimpled when she was forced to keep her lips closed. She was previously treated for an “open bite” by her first orthodontist, but the problems above persisted and her orthodontia issues would return if we hadn’t heard about Dr Franklin and her breakthrough Myofunctional therapy program. The “open bite” and other habits were symptoms of a tongue thrust. We learned through Dr Franklin that her tongue thrust and open mouth posture were a result of large tonsils and a severe tree and cat allergy that we were previously unaware of. She looks at the whole child and no stone is left unturned when assessing a child’s habit and developing a personal therapy program to break those habits. 17 months later (COVID made our treatment plan a bit longer) I can happily report that my daughter is a full time nose breather, her lips and chin took on a more natural shape, and with daily allergy meds she no longer rubs her nose constantly.
Dr Franklin truly cares about each patient and celebrate each success. There is daily homework that had to become part of our routine at home. But, my daughter worked hard and we got results fast! We are both so pleased with the results and we feel blessed that we found Dr Franklin so early, when my daughter was only 9 years old. Thank you, Dr Franklin, for changing our lives!!

We were referred to Dr. Franklin by my daughter’s dentist due to an open bite a couple of years ago. Little did we know that our daughter had developed a tongue thrust with the root cause tied to allergies to trees, grass, pollen, etc. She had been breathing through her mouth for years, and unfortunately this is a hard habit to break without professional help. After treating her allergies and several months of myofacial therapy, the results were apparent. The before and after photos and videos were amazing! Her mouth now stays closed at resting posture and her chin is no longer receding. Had we gone straight to orthodontia to correct the open bite, we would have just wasted time and money as we would not have addressed the root cause. My daughter will still require braces but only for a short amount of time. We are comforted in knowing that the orthodontia treatment won’t be undone once they are removed due to all the hard work from Dr. Franklin and my daughter. I highly recommend Dr. Franklin.

I have to admit I was unaware of myofunctional therapy until my daughter needed it. I thought the benefits would be minimal. However, after a couple of years of the therapy, I have to say I'm astounded how it can work! It completely changed my daughter's profile - not to mention the benefits on her speech and chewing capabilities. If you do the work Dr. Franklin outlines then she will help you far exceed your goals!

My son saw Dr. Franklin for 16 months of treatment and therapy for a "tongue thrust". She not only addressed his mouth issues, she identified airway / allergy issues that had to be corrected first. Dr. F is thorough and communicates well. She develops wonderful rapport with her young patients and earns their respect while keeping a strong level of accountability. Bottom line, it won't work if your child doesn't do the work. She motivates them and keeps it positive. I dealt w/ a thrust as a child in the '80s and treatment has come a long way since then. Much improved. The investment we made into this I believe was well worth it on many levels. My son's teeth and bite are very straight and I expect we've reduced (or potentially avoided) time in braces b/c of the work with Dr. F. My advice: Go to Dr. Franklin, be patient with it, ask questions when you need to and stay involved and your child will get amazing results.
